We are currently closed with all public performances to the end of the year cancelled or postponed. We will reopen for new socially distanced shows and classes from January 2021, with a digital production of Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas available December 2020.

FAQs (Classes)

We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors, and we want to assure all those attending classes that their health and wellbeing is our top priority. We have put together a list of frequently asked questions that should explain all of the safety measures we have put in place, and should cover everything you can expect in a visit to our venue. What guidelines are you following to ensure classes are safe?

For all of our young people activity such as classes and workshops, we are following the Governments Out of School Settings Guidance for those aged 0-18 and the National Youth Agencies guidelines for those aged 18 – 25.

Is the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre open to the public?

We are thrilled to be able to re-open the Theatre for classes and performances from January 2021. We are currently only able to open during class and performance times, and will only be admitting those with tickets for shows or a booked place at one of our classes. Our Café and the Lyric Bar and Grill are currently closed to the public and so parents or carers will be unable to wait here whilst the classes are taking place. 

How can I book a class?

You can book a class by going to our classes page here. To book any class you will need to have a Young Lyric Membership. Please note there are only 15 places for each class to ensure safety for those taking part. If you are unable to purchase our classes online, please call our box office on 020 8741 6850.

 What precautions will I need my child to take?

Prior to booking, you must confirm that you have read and agreed to our terms and conditions. We have hand sanitiser stations situated in numerous locations around the building, and we require everyone who enters the building to sanitise their hands before they make their way through our foyer. We also require your child to wear a face covering whilst walking through the building, which can only be removed once they are in the class. All those in the Lyric will follow a one way system. All members of staff will be wearing a face covering at all times outside of classes

What should I do if my child is feeling unwell before the class?

We ask that you comply with government guidance on isolating anyone who has coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, such as a raised temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste, and should follow the COVID-19: guidance for households with possible coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. We ask that your child does not attend the Lyric if they are showing symptoms.

What will happen if my child is feeling unwell during the class?

Please accept the Lyrics discretion to send any child home if symptoms develop during activity or attendance at the Lyric. We will contact you immediately and have a designated area for them to wait for their adult to avoid any further spread of germs.

What happens if a class has to be cancelled?

If further restrictions mean that classes cannot go ahead in person, the decision to teach online or offer a refund will be at the discretion of the activity provider, as opposed to the Lyric when the Lyric is not the activity provider.

Am I able to see a risk assessment form? 

A risk assessment in relation to each activity e.g. dance, music etc. is available via the activity provider upon request. The main risk assessment form which covers all classes is  here: COVID 19 procedures for Young Lyric Classes January 2021.

What extra cleaning procedures do you have in place?

We have increased our cleaning rotas to cover all surfaces, the room will be cleaned before, during and after each class, the toilets are cleaned at regular intervals throughout the day and all surfaces are frequently cleaned while the building is open as required. The rooms will also be ventilated before use. Where possible windows will remain open and/or space will be ventilated during class using the Lyrics air handling and air conditioning systems.

What test and trace measures are in place?

We are fully compliant with the NHS Test and Trace service – we require a contact phone number for each class booking which will be used for your child if it becomes necessary. We also ask that your child has signed up to the NHS Test and Trace app if they have a smart device, and the information on how to sign up for the app and ability to ‘check-in’ will be available at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.

Will my child be able to use the toilet?

There will be designated toilets for each class which are regularly cleaned.

How many spaces are there for each class?

To comply with the governments Out of School Settings guidance there will be 15 places for each class and these will be socially distanced at 2 metres.

What time should we arrive for the class?

Please arrive no more than 10 mins before the class. We ask for parents to drop off and collect outside the Lyric and to never enter the building (Flexibility will be considered for parents and carers who are registered disabled.) The child attending the class should wait in the café to be collected by their workshop leader. At the end of the class, the children will be escorted directly to meet their parent or carer outside the Lyric’s main entrance, limiting contact with all other building users.

Are there any bursaries available?

There are no bursaries available for this term, we aim for these to resume in Summer 2021.

Are we able to get public transport to the class?

Where possible, we encourage you to walk or cycle to the Lyric or travel using a private vehicle rather than taking public transport, particularly during peak times. 

Can I book for just one class?
Classes are to be booked per term, as opposed to per class to ensure a consistent bubble of young people per activity. Two consistent practitioners will teach classes for all 10 weeks of term.  It is not advised that children take part in more than one different class per term.

Will there be a public sharing at the end of the term?
This term there will be no public sharing, to abide by Covid-19 guidelines.
