Lyric launches freelance surgery sessions

Artistic Director, Rachel O’Riordan said:

“The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is committed to talent development. We believe that artists are the lifeblood of theatre; we also know that this year has been devastating and terrifying for so many. Some artists who have worked as an individual may now be thinking they want to work collaboratively.

The Lyric is offering guidance and advice to those people who wish to start their own company. This is something close to my heart, as it is how I began my own career, in Belfast. I made many mistakes, learned an enormous amount and discovered new ways to connect with audiences. Back then, some of what makes theatre happen was unknown to me and I often had no one to ask. So, the Lyric is making time available with four of the Lyric staff who can aid, answer, and perhaps provoke questions about how to form, programme, and run your own company.

Amy Belson, Director of Communications and Culture; Iain Goosey, Senior Producer; Ivan Rockey, Director of Finance and Resources and me, the Artistic Director will make time available, bespoke to your own needs. We hope this is the beginning of a conversation with emerging companies. The project will be supported by Alex Hurst, our resident Assistant Director. We really hope to hear from you.”

Freelancers who are looking for support can email alex.hurst@lyric.co.uk to book a surgery slot in one of the following areas:

  • Marketing, communications & press
  • Producing
  • Finance
  • Artistic

Surgery sessions are available throughout January and February.
