Power to the People Comedy and Storytelling Workshop

Power to the People is a workshop where we will learn to utilize humour for self expression, building confidence and taking up space. Come make yourself laugh! Whether you’re curious about taking up stand-up comedy, want to utilize the power of comedy to be more confident, want to enhance your public speaking prowess or just feel like getting silly – this afternoon workshop is for you. 

This workshop is being put on by FOC IT UP! aka The Femmes of Colo(u)r Comedy Club and is exclusively for women, trans and non-binary people of colour. 

We will explore methods for telling your story and generating material from life experiences, so bring a notebook and pen! And be prepared to get practical by embracing the power of performance (hopping on the mic is optional, but come on… live a little!) 

This will include: 

  • storytelling and comedy writing tips you can take home
  • guidance on how to find who you want to be on stage  
  • time to create in community and meet likeminded people
  • an opportunity to share what you’ve prepared 

This workshop will be taught by Kemah Bob.

ABOUT Kemah

Kemah Bob (she/they) is a comedian from Houston, Texas now based in London who values comedy as a powerful tool for self expression. She founded The Femmes of Colo(u)r Comedy Club with one intention: to create a joyful and empowering experience. She has supported Hannah Gadsby, Nish Kumar, Desiree Burch, Jess Fostekew. Kemah’s solo comedy show Miss Fortunate was chosen as on of the Guardians Top 10 Comedy shows of 2024. Her TV work includes QI, It’s A Sin: After Hours, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club (ITV), 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (C4), Richard Osman’s House of Games and more.

ABOUT FOC

Since 2018 FOC ITUP! has presented the fiercest mixed bills unapologetically celebrating and centring women and trans comedians of colour.
