As part of our commitment to supporting the development of new work, Lyric Hammersmith Theatre are offering companies led by Black British Artists an exciting new opportunity as part of our Artistic Residencies programme.
The programme provides one week of free space in the Lyric Studio; advice sessions with the Lyric team across producing, fundraising, technical, production management or marketing; technical support and access to office resources such as printing, scanning and computers.
Lyric Artistic Residencies are suitable for theatre companies who have an idea they want to develop and would benefit from time in a theatrical space. This time could be used for a variety of activities, including script development, rehearsals, research and development, workshops and filming.
These free residences are presented in partnership with Talawa and their new production Play On!, a new Jazz musical version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night which comes to the Lyric in January 2025.
This means for the summer Artistic Residencies, we’re looking for companies that are developing new musicals or plays with music. This opportunity is for artists who are from the African and Caribbean Diasporas, and theatre companies who are led by ethnically diverse artists who live or work in England.
Successful companies will also have an opportunity to share their work at the Lyric’s For the Culture Festival in October 2024.
A networking event will also be held at the Lyric for companies to meet each other and key members of the Lyric team.
Nicholai La Barrie, Associate Director of the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, said: “Everyone has a story to tell and we want to give more people from all backgrounds the chance to tell theirs. Our Artistic Residencies scheme provides vital theatrical support and facilities for ethnically diverse theatre makers who may not have had the opportunity to develop their craft and take their work to the next level through access to space, professional guidance and resources. I and so many brilliant artists have developed their practice with the Lyric so I would encourage artists to apply for this opportunity whether this is your first encounter with us or one of many. We can’t wait to hear from you and share our space and knowledge to continue helping diverse talent from our community to thrive.”
Please complete the form below in full to submit your project for consideration.
The deadline for applications is Friday 16th August at 12pm.
