By Amy Belson November 28, 2017

Toyah was the original Mad in Derek Jarman’s Jubilee, a role she
created with Jarman’s blessing, having met Derek whilst working
at the National Theatre. Toyah went on to be nominated as Best
Newcomer in Jarman’s film The Tempest by the London Evening
Standard. Toyah has avoided categorisation for 41 years. They took
the punk scene by storm, even managing to avoid categorisation
within the movement, and successfully pushed out the boundaries
for women in music. In her career as a writer / singer / actress,
following 28 studio albums, three of which are platinum sellers, and
eight top 40 singles and winning awards in all areas of her work, in
2002 Toyah was honoured by Birmingham University with a Doctorate
in Media, plus a Walk of Fame star opposite the Birmingham Rep
Theatre. In 2018, she will continue to tour, make movies, write and
release her albums.

Someone and Quadrophenia.
