Running With Lions

A family drama of love, loss and hope.

Following the death of a loved one, a British-Caribbean family struggles to come to terms with their grief. Isolated by their generational beliefs and challenges to their faith and mental health, they live between the things they do and do not say.

Running With Lions explores the journey of one family’s reconciliation after loss and the rediscovery of love and joy.

Running With Lions is the first play from exciting new writing talent Sian Carter. Running With Lions will be directed by Michael Buffong, Talawa Theatre Company’s Artistic Director (Guys & Dolls; King Lear; All My Sons, Talawa Theatre Company/Royal Exchange) and is a co-production with Talawa Theatre Company, the UK’s outstanding Black British Theatre Company.

Based on the play ‘Running with Lions’, originally commissioned by BBC Radio 4.

Radio Play Submissions

We are looking for submissions for two new radio Plays that explore the themes of family, wellbeing, grief or hope in response to Running With Lions.

We are looking for young people aged 16 – 25 from West-London and who identify as Black.

Two successful submissions will be professionally recorded and directed by theatre Director Rob Awosusi.

Submissions should be a maximum of 10 minutes and include a maximum of 3 characters.

The two selected writers will receive financial and dramaturgical support to further develop their submission.

Radio plays will be recorded on the 3rd & 4th March 2022 at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.
