Full details of the session and the dates are below. The sessions will take place here at the Lyric and if you like to book your place please fill out the Google form below. Priority is given to schools that are based in the West London Boroughs of:

  • Monday 9th March, 4pm-6pm Introduction to Set Design

Join Lucy Algar (performance designer and educator) for a 2-hour workshop on how to encourage and enable your students to generate, select and articulate set design ideas. We will talk about the terminology used and the ways in which students can describe their ideas as well as trying out some practical workshop ideas. We will create small-scale models and use them to facilitate discussion of theatre language, such as scale, depth, upstage, downstage. Time will be left for Q&A. Please come prepared to draw and discuss ideas.

  • Monday 16th March, 4pm-6pm Costume and Character workshop

This workshop, led by Lucy Algar, will cover everything related to designing costumes for performance. We will look at processes which enable students to draw ideas about period, costume and personality from a text to build a character and then delve into practical drawing and collage processes. We will also discuss ways in which students can describe costume ideas when they cannot show their designs visually and explore some confidence building drawing methods. Please come prepared to draw and discuss ideas.

A variety of books will be available at the workshops for participants to read and to support the topics we will discuss.

Both workshops will use The Threepenny Opera as the core text.
