God of Carnage Response Project

The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is looking for ten 18-25 year old writers* who are part of the Global Majority to take part in a Creative Response Project to God of Carnage.

We are looking for young people who are interested in writing, based in West London, and part of the Global Majority to form a writer’s room, led by Liz Daramola and Rebekah Murrell. Creatively exploring the idea of how positive chaos can be created when we don’t mask our true selves, this cohort will write a collective script in response to The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre’s upcoming main house show, the Olivier and Tony award-winning play, God of Carnage. This will be staged in a rehearsed reading with professional actors on Wednesday 04 October at 19:00.

*How much experience is required?
• No formal writing credits or experience is required, we are interested in your creativity, passion and imagination.
• You may have started writing things that have never been shared or staged publicly.
• If however, you’ve already been professionally commissioned as a writer for stage or screen, this opportunity will be prioritised for those without this experience.

Is this a paid opportunity?
No, this is a free participatory project for young people in West London

In order to apply, you must fulfil all of the following criteria:
• Be 18-25 years old at the time of application
• Be part of the Global Majority
• Currently live in one of the 10 West London Boroughs- Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Richmond Upon Thames, Wandsworth and Westminster
• *Be interested in creative writing and playwriting (please note no formal writing credits or experience is required and we are accepting applications from writers of all levels of experience)
• Be able to attend God of Carnage on Thursday 14 September at 19:30 at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre (ticket provided)
• Be able to commit to attend all sessions:
o Sessions: 18:30 – 20:30 on Tuesday 19 September, Thursday 21 September, Tuesday 26 September, Thursday 28 September
o Sharing Day: Wednesday 4 October (performance at 19:00)

We understand that your identity may not be represented by the term ‘writer’, but you may feel suitable for the project. We are particularly interested in hearing from young people who are D/deaf and disabled, young people from low-income households and young people in care / care leavers as we recognise these groups are currently underrepresented in the theatre industry. Please contact us if you have any questions, or would like to apply in an alternative format (such as video or audio application).
