Frequently asked questions about Young People’s Borough of Culture Youth Board
- Is this a paid programme?
No, but all travel costs to attend sessions and events will be provided and we will fund access costs for anyone with disabilities who require them.
- I am 12 or almost 26 at the time of applying. Am I still eligible?
Yes. You must only be aged 13-25 by the first session, Tuesday 28th April 2026.
- I am in University or evening classes. Am I still eligible?
Yes, this is for anyone who lives or learns in the Borough.
- There are a few dates listed in the schedule that I cannot attend. Am I still eligible?
This will vary case to case, based on the amount of unavailability. Please indicate any expected unavailability in your application under Question 16.
- What can I expect from the group interview?
You can expect a relaxed environment, with a mix of exercises that are both creative and practical. We’ll play warm up games, introduce ourselves, and you will be split into groups to respond to prompts and share back to the group.
- What can I expect from the sessions?
Very similarly to the interview, sessions will be fun, supportive and relaxed. The first part of the session is where you will be consulted, such as exploring and deciding the theme or name of a project. The second part will be exercises that develop your leadership and confidence skills, such as exercises and talks by visiting professionals.
- Can I take part in the Young People’s Borough of Culture if I’m on the Board?
Yes you can. If you are part of a project, you won’t be involved in those Board decisions for that project, to avoid a conflict of interest.
- Will the Youth Board only contribute in the meetings once a month?
The meetings are your official time to contribute – however there are many opportunities to support outside of those, such as practically helping run outreach events as part of the programme. This is up to you!
- How will we be credited?
The Youth Board will be credited and celebrated on the website, on social media, and in any media that will remain past the programme! We want to celebrate your contribution in any way we can.
- If I think I might leave the Board at some point due to University or moving, what should I do?
Please still apply and indicate this as part of your answer for Question 16.
- I am having trouble filling in the form. Who can I contact if I am having an issue?
Please contact us at participation@lyric.co.uk and we will be able to assist you.
