Live in West London and interested in backstage and technical roles in Theatre?

The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) are looking for young people aged 14-18 who live in West London to take part in a new free ten-week technical theatre course. The cohort will take part in practical sessions led by industry professionals, exploring Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Scenic Construction and Virtual Production. Classes will take place both at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and at LAMDA, the schedule for which will be shared in advance with the cohort. In the first session of the course, the group will be accompanied to watch Minority Report at the main house of the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.

We are particularly interested in hearing from young people from the global majority, young people who are D/deaf and disabled, young people from low-income households (measured by access to Free School Meals in the last 6 years) and young people in care / care leavers as we recognise these groups are currently underrepresented in the technical theatre industries.

In order to apply, you must fulfil all the following criteria:

  • Be aged 14-18 at the time of application
  • Must be able to travel to either the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre or LAMDA for a session
  • Live anywhere in West London
    • Applications will be prioritised for those who currently live in one of the following boroughs- Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Richmond Upon Thames, Wandsworth and Westminster
  • Be able to commit to attending and completing the entire ten-week programme:
  • Week 1: Monday 22 April 17:30 – 21:00
    • 17:30 – 18:45 session, 18:45 – 19:30 pizza dinner break, (pizza provided!) 19:30 – 21:00 watching Minority Report
