What is the future of ticketing in the context of the climate emergency?
The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre has declared a climate emergency. It is our ambition to be net carbon zero by 2030.
This month we launched our #ClimateEmergency campaign on the theme of emergency. We are exploring what we might do differently as an organisation and as individuals as we live through this climate crisis.
So this week, we’re asking ourselves: what is the future of ticketing in the context of the climate emergency?
After a bit of research (How Bad Are Bananas by Mike Berners-Lee) we found out that mail clocks up a carbon footprint in four basic ways: paper production, printing, postage and decomposition and one letter printed on recycled paper and recycled by you is 120g C02e.
Currently, the majority of our audiences (76%) collect their tickets at Box Office or opt to have them printed and then posted out (20%) and only 4% of our audiences are currently selecting e-tickets. We want to change that.
So when you’re next coming to the Lyric, why not select e-tickets instead of getting your tickets printed and posted out to you?
This way you can beat the box office queues and contribute to reducing your carbon footprint.
