2.6 Challenge for the Lyric

Find out how Lyric staff are getting involved and how you can support them

Although it’s not a conventional fundraising avenue for a theatre, the Lyric has been raising money from sponsored walks, runs, cycles and more over the past few years. It’s become a really important income stream for us, not to mention creating lots of fun challenges for our staff and volunteers.

That’s why the cancellation of the London Marathon, which should have taken place this coming Sunday 26 April, was another blow for us.

However, the Lyric staff are remaining positive! We have decided to do something small in its place by taking part in the 2.6 Challenge.

Rather than running 26 miles (a hard feat in any scenario but especially in lockdown conditions…) a number of Lyric staff are setting challenges for Sunday around the 2.6 number, and have set a fundraising target of £125 each for the Lyric Recovery Fund to mark our 125th birthday.

• Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan is running for 26 minutes every day for a week from Sunday. You can sponsor Rachel here.

• Executive Director Sian Alexander is walking the 26 minutes it takes from her house to the Lyric with her family to pay a visit to see our beautiful theatre. You can sponsor Sian here.

• Director of Development Lucy Howe and Development Manager Isabelle Taylor are both either running 2.6 miles, cycling 26 miles, or doing 26 reps of various exercises each day for a week.
You can sponsor Lucy here or Isabelle here.

• Director of Communications & Sales Amy Belson is doing 26 minutes of exercise on Sunday. You can sponsor Amy here.

• Senior Producer Iain Goosey is running for 26 minutes every day for a week, and hoping to complete 5km in 26.26 minutes on the last day. You can sponsor Iain here.

• Development Trainee Noor Shahid is cycling 2.6 miles every day for a week. You can sponsor Noor here.

Fancy taking on your own 2.6 Challenge? It’s not too late so sign up and help support the Lyric during our closure. Please email Lucy.Howe@lyric.co.uk if you’d like to take part.

Thank you.
