Lyric life

Dick Whittington Cast Q&A: Luke Latchman

We managed to tear Luke Latchman away from his mayoral responsibilities to find out what it’s like to play Dick Whittington himself.

  • What is the most exciting thing about playing Dick Whittington in this year’s panto?

To play a character who gets to meet so many interesting people while following his very simple goal is great fun! It’s interesting to think about how different people effect you in so many ways in life.

  • What’s your top tip for someone who wants to become a performer?

It’s possible! Keep trying and get the training you need – audition for drama school on a 3 year BA or post-graduate course.

  • If you could sum up the Lyric pantomime in 3 words, what would they be?

Wacky, big and fun.

  • If you could swap roles with one of the other characters in Dick Whittington, who would it be and why?

I think I’d like to be Tom cat because the character is just everything in life I am not and I think I’d enjoy just getting to pretend and feel cool for once.

  • What was the first Christmas show that you remember watching at the theatre?

Pantomime back home in Canterbury. With the legendary Dave Lee the Dame! It was brilliant.
