Lyric Hammersmith Theatre wins Creative Green Award for Highest Achievement for Understanding

At the fourth Creative Green Awards in partnership with Season for Change, the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre was awarded ‘Highest Achievement for Understanding’. They said about our work at the awards ceremony:

“An inspirational veteran in climate action, and previous multiple-award winner, Lyric Hammersmith Theatre deserve their place here again tonight. With obstinate consistency they go behind the scenes and gather the data, pull it apart to translate into not just the long game of managing their impacts on the planet, but also into the community that the Lyric represents – the team that makes it all work at every level, including artists and audiences, suppliers and contractors. Lyric, like others here tonight, are part of the Spotlight Programme, going even further to ground their commitments in science-based targets to contribute to a decarbonised cultural sector. Really well done.”

The Creative Green Awards honour leading cultural institutions and individuals for their continued commitment to improving sustainability and responding to the challenge of the climate crisis through their business practices.

Julie’s Bicycle CEO, Alison Tickell, addressed the room on the urgency of action required in the approach to COP26 and highlighted the key role of culture in securing the planet for future generations:

“2020 has been the most challenging year for UK culture yet the sector has continued to demonstrate leadership and innovation in their response to the climate crisis. Our Creative Green nominees show the immense impact culture can have and the leadership it can show as we head into 2021 and the crucial COP26 summit in Glasgow.”
