Lyric wins at Julie’s Bicycle first Creative Green Awards

We were excited to attend the inaugural Julie’s Bicycle Creative Green Awards at a ceremony at Somerset House on Tuesday 25 April. The only pan arts award recognising the contribution of the creative industries to climate change, celebrated over 50 arts organisations undertaking Creative Green certification in 2016/17.

We were delighted to win the award for Highest Achievement for Commitment and to top it off Head of our Green team Andrew Fletcher won one of the awards for Staff Champion.

Executive Director of the Lyric, Sian Alexander, said ‘Environmental Sustainability is one of the greatest global challenges we face and we see it as our responsibility as a cultural leader to pioneer best practice and to inspire those around us to envision a positive low-carbon future. We are thrilled to have received these awards which recognise how hard we have worked to embed environmental sustainability at the heart of our organisation – from our mission and business plan to our daily working practices. It is a tribute to the commitment of our green champion Andrew Fletcher, to our green team and to all the Lyric’s staff and we are grateful to Julie’s Bicycle for their support and encouragement of our sustainability journey.’

The awards were presented by Caroline Lucas, Co-Leader of the Green Party, MP for Brighton. Caroline said ‘I’m honoured to be presenting this award. Julie’s Bicycle is an incredibly inspiring organisation who make a real difference when it comes to environmental action. The creative community can have such a huge impact on our approach to sustainability and I look forward to meeting a wonderful group of environmental heroes this week.’
